This section will explain how to create an application using the RPA Extension Option by creating a simple robot application.

Sample to be created in this tutorial

In this tutorial, you will make an application that copies quotation data from the quotation file located in a folder to the CELF sheet, and register it on the Web screen.

The application automatically performs the following operations.

  1. Read data from an Excel file in a specified folder and transcribe it to a CELF sheet

  2. Launch Microsoft Edge and view HTML files in the specified folder.

  3. Transfer the data in the CELF sheet to the TextEdit field on the Web screen and press the “Register” button.

  4. After the message dialog “Registered” appears, press the “OK” button.

  5. Show the message dialog “Process completed.”.

Requirements

Prepare the following beforehand.


Preparing files to be used

Prepare the input data files that will be used in the sample application.

  1. Download a complete sample file set.

  2. Extract the downloaded sample file set (Zip format) directly under the C drive. After extracting the files, a folder named “C:\rpasample” will be created.

  3. Confirm that “html” and “Quotation” folders are created under the “C:\rpasample” folder, and that there are HTML files and Excel files respectively.

    Hint

    You can run the sample application with the sample file set in any folder other than “C:\rpasample”.However, in such a case, you have to change the file path set when creating the action set to the actual one.


Creating an application

Create a new application.

  1. Log in to CELF as an application creator or as a user with administrator privileges.

  2. Click the “Manage” button to display the management screen.

  3. Click the “+New Application” button to create a new application.

    Hint

    In the explanation, the application name is “Tutorial”.

  4. Double-click “Tutorial”.

  5. Click the “+New Sheet” button to create a new sheet.

  6. Select the desired cell and click the “Button” button to create a button.

    In the explanation, the name of the button is “Execute”.

  7. Click the “Execute” button that was created.

  9. Click the “Save” button to save an action set.

  10. Click the “Select” button.

Creating an action set that uses robot action

Set up the process to be executed using the robot action when the button is pressed. First, display the edit screen of the action set.

  1. Click the “Action set settings” button.

  3. First, create a process to read data from the Excel file.

    1. From the “File operation” tab, drag the “Set data in Excel file to cell” action and set it in the edit area.

      Tip

      After that, similarly, create an action set by dragging and dropping the action sets from the list on the left side of the screen to the right side.

    2. Select “Use the specified path” and set “C:\rpasample\quotations\M_MAIN_ quotation.xlsx”.

      Hint

      If you saved the attachment in a location other than C:\rpasample, plaese set the actual location where it was saved.

    3. Set “Sheet1” to “Excel sheet name to read”.

    4. Set the Excel cell to be read from and the CELF cell to set the read data. Here, the value of the destination column (B17) in Excel will be set to the “C5” cell of the CELF sheet.

    5. In the same way, set the value of the title (E35), the estimated price (F37) and the delivery date (E39) to the CELF sheet.

      Hint

      To add a setting field, click “+” to the right of “Specify set destination”.

  4. Next, display the system screen where the read data is to be registered. Here we will use the sample screen.

    1. Drag the “Launch application” action from the “Robot” tab and set it to the edit area.

    2. Set the location of the Microsoft Edge executable to “Apps to run or files to open”.

      Hint

      You can select the location of the file by clicking the “…” button on the right of the input field.

    3. Set “C:\rpasample\html\rpa-tutorial.html” to “Launch options”.

      If you saved the attachment in a location other than C:\rpasample, plaese set the actual location where it was saved.

  5. Next, post the data from the CELF sheet to the system screen.

    1. As preparation for setting the operation of the system screen, open “”C:\rpasample\html\rpa-tutorial.html” in Microsoft Edge.

    2. Drag the “Operate a control on the screen” action from the “Robot” tab and set it to the edit area.

    3. Click the button for setting “Operation Target” and select the input field of “TO”.

    4. Confirm that “[TextEdit]” is selected on the displayed setting screen, and click “Apply” button.

      Hint

      If “Area(Data Item)” etc. is displayed, click on the “+” button displayed on the left side to expand the internal structure and select “[TextEdit]”.

    5. Set “=C5” to “Set the following value”.

      Tip

      “=C5” is an expression meaning to use the contents of “C5” cell. By the processing described in 3.3, the “C5” cell is set to the value of the recipient retrieved from Excel.

    6. Set the same way for “Project name”.

    7. Drag the “Type key” action from the “Robot” tab and set it to the edit area.

      Note

      “Estimated price” and “Delivery date” can be set in the same way as “TO”, but here for explanation purpose, we will set the “Estimated price” and “Delivery date” value by keyboard operation

    8. Select the key input field and press the “Tab” key.

      The focus will move to the next input field by pressing “Tab” key during execution.

    9. Drag the “Paste string” action from the “Robot” tab and set it to the edit area.

    10. Set “=E5” to “Paste the following character”.

    11. Set “Delivery date” in the same way.

    12. Then click the Register button to register the data. Add “Operate a control on the screen” action and click the operation target setting button and then select “Register” button on the sample page screen.

    13. Press the Space key to close the confirmation message. Add the “Wait” action from the “Robot” tab and set the number of seconds to “0.5”.

      Hint

      Wait for the dialog to appear before pressing the key.

    14. Add the “Type key” action from the “Robot” tab and select key input field, and then type “Space” key.

  6. Finally, close the registration screen and finish processing.

    1. Add the “Close window” action from the “Robot” tab.

    2. Add the “Show message as a pop-up” action from the “Control” tab and set the message field to “Process completed.”.

  7. Click the “Save” button.

    Hint

    In the explanation, the sheet name is “Sample sheet”.

  10. Close the sheet.


Checking the created application

If it is created according to the instructions, it will be as shown below.

Tip

The range from “C4” cell to “F5” cell is formatted as a table so that the data retrieved from Excel is easy to understand, but even if it is not formatted as a table, it does not affect the operation.

Publication of application

Set the created application to be executable.

  1. Click the “Home” button to return to the application management screen.

Run application

Run the application that was created.

  1. Click the “Manage” button and close the management screen.

  3. By clicking the “Execute” button, the data read from the file will be set into the CELF sheet.
